A beautifully shaped A-line dress for small girls, with a deep gathered inset pocket in contrasting fabric. This is a wonderful soft dress, perfect for cool autumn days, fresh spring mornings, and winter dreaming. It is perfect for twirling around in, and perfect for hiding treasures deep inside the pocket. And absolutely perfect for cuddling up with on the couch with your favourite doll.

This pattern is highly detailed and requires experience with sewing on a sewing machine, and confidence in combining the sewing of fabric and knit fabrics together. The shaping of the knit pieces follows sewing pattern conventions, rather than knitwear pattern shaping.

The pattern includes: Full line by line instructions for the knitted component, paper sewing pattern pieces for the fabric inset, and a schematic. Please note the document is 18 pages long.

SHADOW [] BOX

 

A box of folded shadows

Folded drapes hiding memories, hiding dreams lost within time and place. Holding within them the scent of a touch and the faded remnants of a breathe against your neck. Wrapped bulk, decadent in it's simplicity and strength in it's structure. Or it's lack of structure. It's refined shape. Worn loose, loopy drapes falling across the chest plate revealing what's underneath, fingers tracing warm skin. Worn tight, bound through layers with a large bone button at the neck, gentle undulations caressing one shoulder, arms wrapped around, sheltering against the rain.

A large bulky knit – a cross between a cowl and a cape – with gentle shapings on one side to follow the shape of one shoulder and neck,  and a large draped neck which can be worn loose or buttoned to the side. The button is a simple toggle idea, without being attached to the garment so you can play with it endlessly and have a different look each time you wear it. Knit with two strands of soft wool, this is a quick easy project. Suitable for beginners.

SIZES: Small [S], Medium [M], Large [L]. Sizing is loose and designed to be scrunched up lengthwise. It can be altered simply to fit any body shape by altering the number of cast on stitches, neck stitches, and lengths worked to achieve body and neck length.

My little girl loves to help in the kitchen and play along side me as I cook and clean and potter around, so when she received a beautiful timber kitchen for her birthday and immediately grabbed my oven mitt, I knew she had to have one. I must send enormous amounts of credit to Alex at Moonstitches - it was her oven mitt she made for me as part of an earlier backtack which inspired this whole episode. I've used her mitt every single day - it is very much part of our kitchen and my life in the kitchen. I have often looked at it and thought I should make one....but hers is so lovely and simple and beautifully made that I can't bear to not use that particular one. But I can make Pia one of her own which fits her and doesn't wave around and prohibit her grabbing onto anything because it is so large...

And now you can make your child one too. I have done a simple pattern instruction sheet with template in .pdf form to download. You can use whatever material you want, change the dimensions etc and make it your own. It should fit a child up to about 8 years old, maybe even older. I hope you enjoy making it!

The cost of upkeeping an account through the third party provider I was using is just too much, not to mention some issues I have had with the service they provided. What you need is a capelet to wear while picking berries. This is a wonderful cape for small girls. It is strong and bold, yet feminine in a bright colour. Knitted top down in one piece, it is quick to knit up in an aran yarn, and has an interesting band of woven knit stitch along its borders. A very cute asymmetric collar wraps around the neckline, which is secured off centre with 3 large feature buttons.

STEPS TO MIDNIGHT

And the night is dark. Let's imagine. Dark night, on just this side of midnight. Still. Quiet. Crisp air, moving slowly amongst wisps of clouds. And you step closer. Step closer to Midnight, feeling the chill, drawing yourself in for warmth, pulling garments around close to protect and seal.

This is a cowl for night time memories. A simple but precise description of small steps through a landscape which will have it's own story, in whatever weight and colour yarn you choose. This can be easily adjustable for tighter step patterns, or for thicker wools by varying the stitch count - as long as the number is divisible to get an even number of stitches between each set of wraps [steps].

SUMIDITY

The origami nature of folded fabrics has become a small ritualistic diversion for me which I really have been enjoying immensely. There is a calmness and serenity to simple forms structured from behind or within. I love folds, I love the hidden nature of them, the reveal, and the containment. I can't help wondering about the voids and shadows left over by the folds, and how they should adapt and drape for each child which wears a garment made from them. Sumidity is a wonderful free flowing top, unstructured, long, and loose, which is lovely and crisp with a white t-shirt underneath and worn over jeans, or leggings. It will move with a babies movements as they stretch, crawl and walk proud. The fold is cleverly constructed with a gathered bottom section which allows it to maintain its folded place and to billow out – a 3dimensional fold across the front like a flower petal. The hemlines are subtly asymmetric – enough to give some shape, but not excessive to look out of place on a child’s garment. There is a definite Japanese fishing uniform feel to this, which I think would work well in different fibres and colours, but which will work most strongly with natural colours and fibres with some firmness to them.

The name derives from an obsessive love of the idea of Sumi Charcoal (a natural dye used by Habu in their yarns) and the notion of fluidity. Sumi+Fluidity=Sumidity.

WRAP CARDIGAN

This is a really great versatile, unisex, wrap cardigan for babies and toddlers. This cardigan is knit in one piece from sleeve to sleeve. The fabric panel is a beautiful addition, adding structure and individuality - I love incorporating different textures and patterns in with knitted pieces. The fabric panel makes the piece warm in winter, and depending on what fabric you use and the weight of the wool, can be worn more as a jacket than a cardigan.

This pattern is for sizes 0-3yrs [3m, 6m, 12m, 2T, 3T].
Diagramatic schematics are included, but there are no measurement schematics due to the nature of the knit - the width measurements are included within the pattern framework, and length measurements can be varied by steaming and pressing out the ribbing.
