From one week to the next...
A beautiful creative week, sprinkled with that first delicious warmth of spring, crisp sunlight, and Pia away with her grandparents. Max soaking up the attention of having two parents all to himself - meals out, new lego bought, chattering and holding hands as we walked around, adventures to be had, just him and me. A week in which I slowly got things done - a slow repetition of peaceful thoughtful cutting, tracing, sewing, knitting and reading. Lists made, completed, worked through methodically. Languishing - that's the word I really want to use. Languishing amongst fabrics and pages. It was restorative for all of us. In amongst that week I got a little piece for Pia made - a sleeveless top which wraps across at the back, in Liberty fabric of lush pink florals, tied with a deep magenta velvet ribbon. The pattern is from this japanese book, and was easy and simple to put together. I do like projects that come together so well like that! | More detail shots here |
A week of pairing back to simple things. Clearing the wall. The table. Looking at print options for the black wall. Photographing simple details on knit projects underway.
Fast forward a week.
Sewing projects in disarray and indeed almost thrown across the room, itemised lists forgotton and timetables out the window. Tempers frayed on all sides, and a real sense of being completely off track. One major sewing exercise this week just derailed as I rushed and tried to finish in the early hours of the morning [never a good time to sew]. Patterns in my head which just didn't come together well. Frustration at the little amount of time I have to work, and that growing sense that when I do work and create in an orderly environment, I achieve a lot.
So that is my aim this week. To find those rails I came off last week. To find those moments of just being in the moment, or in the day. Or just simply of being in the sun for 10 minutes with a cup of tea, watching the buds on my magnolia grow. This week I will write a more comprehensive list of things to do. Write those emails. Fill in those forms. Dig out pattern books. And sew and kit with a little more care. This week I will acknowledge what is around me.
And find that balance.
