GIVING

THANKS TO A RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR, TRACY WILL BE RECEIVING THE QUILT SET VERY SOON. AND I WILL REMEMBER TO POST THE FINISHED PIECES. THANKYOU TO EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED - AT ONE POINT I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT MAKING 102 QUILT SETS.......BUT STOPPED MYSELF!
I want to thank all of you for such strong support, encouragement, and debate about the direction I'm taking for the next little while. I'm not going to explore the complex, and emotional, story of women's roles and how they relate to my profession and my views on them, but I wanted to stress I will still be working as an architect next year, just for myself, with me and my family as the client, and now I get a chance to explore some of the ideas which have been offered this year, and for which I have till now said No to. I'm still going to scream at the kids. The house will still be a mess. I will still be tired.
I've done a lot of talking this year, and I thought it might be nice to spread a little christmas cheer and give something tangible back other than my thanks. The little dolls quilt set I am making for Pia....well, I made a second one too. A green one, fresh, light, with hints of blue in the vintage chenille, and red dots through it, citrus velvet ribbon tags, natural linen and coordinating sashiko embroidery (ok, it will have that when I'm finished it). There will be a white waffle blanket with coordinating trim, and a sheet for a mattress, and a pillowcase. And it's all yours if you can bare to get something you haven't seen the end product of. Just leave a comment by 9.00am Saturday 22nd December, and we'll come up with a very technical way of pulling a number out of the hat, and the doll quilt set will be posted to you on Monday 24th December. Unless a miracle happens (don't laugh....we all believe in miracles don't we?) you wont get it for Christmas, but sometime soon after. A little thankyou, in the best way I know how.

I think your work is truly beautiful and it has been an inspiration to me to pull out my sewing machine and knitting needles. I'd be thrilled to be able to give my daughter your lovely handmade gift.

What a sweet and kind gesture Alison. You have already given so much to me as I have had the pleasure of reading your inspiring blog all year. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family. If the precious blanket comes to me, it will be treasured as all handmade things should be.

With a soon-to-be-husband who is a surveyor, I understand a little of the lack of support for women with families in the construction industry, and can only applaud you for making the right decision for you and yours - it isn't your issue to resolve, rather the industry's. That said, when they get a bit older (the chitlins, not the 'Industry', although mentally they are probably on a par with Max) I hope you and Mr 6.5 will start your own practice - I think you would do a marvellous job. Then, when we move to Sydney (hint, hint my husbandish), you could contract work out to our survey company...what?! :)
Alison, I would love anything that came from your wonderful studio, so sign me up for the doll's quilt set.

What a generous impulse! I hope that you and your family have a lovely holiday! I would love to see fotos of Christmas in your part of the world. I live in California and we do not have a "white" Christmas.

My bean is getting her first "grown-up" doll this year (when did 5-year-old's start needing grown-up dolls?). She, her new friend, and I would be honored to have such a fabulous ensemble in our home.
Hope you and your family have the most wonderful holiday. I can feel you have one of the best years coming your way. And your recent decision was a beautiful start. Enjoy your every day!
Take care!

Alison. So generous as always. The post that Kirsten did a while back stays with me - all that beautifulness.
I am sure that your dolls bedding is amazing - and it would be just the 'kick' that I need to restore Daisy's dolls cot... so please add my comment to your draw :)
